Daniel Redfern opened Prairie Sapphire in September 2017 in a 900-square-foot storefront on Gough Street in Hayes Valley. The name came from a conversation about the Great Plains, where Daniel grew up, and the particular quality of light on a clear October morning there. The idea was to bring that plainness, that clarity, into a retail space that had something to say. Hayes Valley was the right neighborhood: small enough to feel like a village, serious enough about design to sustain a shop that doesn't discount.
